Do You Have Rosacea?

Rosacea is chronic inflammation of the skin. It can cause redness, visible blood vessels and breakouts. It is most commonly seen on the cheeks, nose, and chin. The RIGHT products can make a world of difference for people suffering with rosacea. Soothing the inflamed skin will clear the redness and bumps. But just because a product is good for certain skin types skin, doesn’t make it a good purchase for those with rosacea. We are going to talk about some common ingredients that may be hiding in your beauty products that can actually hurt instead of heal!

Soften your approach and go with a gentle touch.
We all have that one friend that gets offended by everything. Well if that friend was a skin condition, it would be rosacea.
Scrubbing, exfoliating, rubbing and tugging will only inflame your skin. Gentle peels Can be beneficial but should be done by a professional who is educated on treating rosacea.
Soap is a nope! Skin with rosacea needs to stay hydrated and unless you have very oily skin, soap might just be too drying. Instead look for a soap free cleanser that is gentle on your skin. That might mean you need to avoid waterproof or heavy makeup products, the gentle cleansers that work best might night be strong enough to fully remove them.
Oils that clog are a no go! Not all oils are created equal, so it’s important to talk to a skincare professional and educate yourself. Some are amazing for hyper sensitive skin and help soothe and hydrate. Others clog the pores, leaving the skin unable to breathe and adding to irritation and congestion. Don’t just check your skincare products, makeup and dirty brushes can be a culprit too.
Like Jamie Foxx said, “blame it on the alcohol”. We aren’t talking about the bubbly though. 66% of rosacea patients saw a marked increase in irritation after using products containing alcohol. Others ingredients frequently reported by patients as a trigger of rosacea symptoms include witch hazel, menthol, peppermint and eucalyptus oil. It is best to avoid harsh astringents and opt for a soothing toner.
Our skin and how it reacts is as unique as our personalities. Some people have similar traits and others are as different as night and day. Find a targeted approach that suits you is the first step towards controlling flare ups. Some other common ingredients that rosacea suffers may be bothered by include acetone, bentonite, bergamot, camphor, cinnamon, clove, cocoa butter, cornstarch, fennel, horsetail, lemon, marjoram, mint, papaya, phenol, sandalwood oil, thyme, wintergreen and ylang-ylang. The ingredients sodium C14-16 olefin sulfate, sodium lauryl sulfate and TEA-lauryl sulfate can also irritate rosacea-prone skin.
