Being too tired is too much to deal with on it’s own, but waking up with acne too?!
Sleep deprivation has a major effect on your skin believe it or not. Being sleep deprived stresses out your body, which produces a hormone called cortisol. High levels of cortisol leads to inflammation and stress on your skin. With all of this being said, any inflammation also breaks down any collagen and hyaluronic acid in your body (I know, big science words..) but to sum it all up, this is what creates the glow in your skin.
Here are some tips to better your sleep (and skin!)
– Plan your schedule in advance to ensure you have time to unwind before bed
– Do a nightly skin routine to relax your skin
– Make sure you are getting at least 8 hours of sleep
– Use an oil diffuser
– Avoid caffeine late in the day
– Keep electronics off at night to avoid any disturbances
Water makes an impact on your skin just as much as sleep, and I know, we’re all guilty of not drinking enough water in a day. The suggested amount of water is half the weight of your body but in ounces. Sounds like too much, but your skin will thank you later.
Water is used as a way to flush out toxins in your skin, therefore if you aren’t drinking enough water the toxins accumulate and stay trapped in your skin. Not only is it important to keep toxins out but drinking enough fluids keeps your skin hydrated to help keep up that glow.
Drinking water and sleeping isn’t a miracle cure for your skin but it takes up a large role in your health. Adding a skin care regimen is just as important and there are many other attributes that can affect your skin but sleeping and drinking enough h20 is a great start.
